NEWSFLASH: The unimitable Cheryl Strayed compiled a list of  the ten best books she has read recently for Barnes & Noble. And would you believe it but Legs Get Led Astray is on the list! She says, of LGLA: Personal essays about youthful despair and dark delight. Tender and sharp and recklessly beautiful.

Also on the list were a few books I’m dying to read such as Dora: A Headcase by Lidia Yuknavtich, How Georgia Became O’Keefe by Karen Karbo and If I Knew Then What I know Now by Ryan Van Meter. Read Cheryl’s entire list here.

Speak of the devil–my mom and I went to Cheryl’s reading in NYC last night at the Barnes & Noble at Union Square.

Me between Cheryl Strayed and my mom, Michele Quigley. New York City.

It was so cool that my mom and Cheryl finally got to meet, because they have a little bit of a history. If you want to know the story behind that–you can read it my essay On Mentors, Mothers, and house-sitting for Cheryl Strayed” here. I suppose it goes without saying that I’m beyond grateful to Cheryl for being such a supportive and special mentor in my life. And since we’re on the subject: here’s an essay I wrote about Cheryl’s Dear Sugar column called “Behind The Scenes of a Regular Sugar Reader.

Thanks for stopping by!
