Please enjoy! As usual thank you for your support. And in particular thank you to: Molly Oswaks, Chris Lavergne, Kevin Sampsell, Sean H. Doyle, and Erika Kleinman for being my team of editors.

Last Saturday night I read at Crush Bar w/ 11 other writers. It was wonderful. Gigi Little wrote about the night here.  I read the essay, My Mother Wanted To Be Betty Boop.” Lidia Yuknavitch mooned the crowd. Seriously! How I love her.

Me–NOT mooning the crowd.

This Thursday I’m going to the book release party for my friend Michael Heald’s book: Goodbye To The Nervous Apprehension. Read an excerpt from the book here on Vol 1 Brooklyn and support small press by buying the book through Michael’s press: Perfect Day Publishing.

Also reading: Forming by (my BFF) Sean H. Doyle. Sean has been one of my fave writers since I began seriously writing. He helps me keep going.

There are times when I am completely overwhelmed recognizing the vast and unbelievable number of people there are in the world and how each one of us has something inside or outside of us that is familiar and alien to one another.

Stephen Elliot (Founder of The Rumpus) is doing a kickstarter to make a movie out of his novel Happy Baby. Lots of sweet incentives including a box of signed books by Cheryl Strayed, Dave Eggers, David Byrne, Nick Hornby, Elizabeth Gilbert, and me. No clue how I got included in that. (One of these things is not like the other…). Go here to donate.

Thought Catalog is distributing my (new) essay called The New Age Camp as a digital book for your tablet, eReader or mobile device. All titles are available through Amazon and the iBookstore.
It will be available soon here. I hope you’ll enjoy it! It took me forever to write.

More soon! Love you all.

Tomorrow I’m taking this class called TRUTHINESS with comedian Lauren Weedman. Stoked. I’m also moving into Cheryl Strayed’s to take care of her cats while she’s away.

Tuesday I start my job at Powell’s Books! Wednesday I’m working. Thursday I haveThanksgiving Yoga. Friday I’m quitting Life. Saturday I’m doing a reading at CRUSH Bar. Come! Info is here. I’m reading with Lidia Yuknavitch, Monica Drake + many more.

Some exciting “literary” things have happened/are happening. xoJane is publishing an essay I wrote about binge-eating + substance abuse. My friend + incredible writer Scott McClanahan interviewed me at Word Riot.  Yoga Dork is having me write some essays about being a yoga dork. Thought Catalog is publishing an essay from LGLA on their website. They’ve also asked me for some of my new essays and they’re going to distribute them as Kindle Singles.

The essay they’re publishing from LGLA is “Getting Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable” about being homeless in Brooklyn after my apartment was condemned.  Funny story: This essay was originally accepted for publication on the New York Times blog called Townies. They cut it at the last minute because it was going to be in LGLA. I was devastated.

Oh, and did you hear? Author (and my publisher,) Kevin Sampsell’s new novel, THIS IS BETWEEN US is going to be released by Tin House! Read all about it here.

I just read the graphic memoir MARBLES. What are you reading?? Email me and tell me.

P.S. Notice my spectacular sidebar–making it easy for you to purchase LGLA directly from me and to Paypal me $ to help you w/ your personal essays. That’s the work of Jamie McKenzie. She’s an awesome gal living in Cali and is starting up her freelance web design, construction and social media management services. Her prices are affordable! Contact her @

Much love + gratitude,

I went to Brooklyn a couple of days ago for a reading and met my friend Molly Oswaks beforehand for mexican food. Molly is a contributor over at Thought Catalog and she is super sweet and fun. She also has an amazing book collection and sweet cat.

It was scary story night at the DANGIT I’M THIRSTY READING SERIES.  I read something new about a Trance Dance I participated in. Such a fun night in New York–a great crowd and the hosts Brie Huling and Roof Alexander were wonderful. Afterward, they had us smash a skull pinata.

What else?  I added some events onto my READINGS page, including the Bushwick Book Club reading at Goodbye Blue Monday. This winter is looking exciting.

And this Saturday, November 5th, Awosting Alchemy is celebrating their first anniversary party in Kingston. I’ll be reading something there.

Oh! I’ve been doing a bit more on my love&music column at The Faster Times. Today I posted a guest post by the lovely Dena Rash Guzman. Featuring Leonard Cohen.

Oh! And check out this video of Kevin Sampsell giving a tour of the Future Tense Warehouse. The Kickstarter project for Future Tense will be going on until November 17th.

Okay, I’m done, I think.
